Brevard College Opera Ensemble presents Fantastic Tales on Nov. 2

From a press release:

Brevard College’s opera ensemble will present their Fantastic Tales scenes program on Sunday, November 2 at 3:00 p.m. in Dunham Music Building’s newly renovated Ingram Auditorium.

The program for Sunday’s performance draws mostly from fairy tales and fantasy. Scenes include the macabre (the séance scene from Menotti’s The Medium and the tarot card trio from Bizet’s Carmen), the fanciful (Papageno and Papagena’s duet from The Magic Flute and the Sandman and Evening Prayer from Hansel and Gretel), and the heartwarming (Bernstein’s “My House” from Peter Pan).

Other audience favorites on the program include the “Three Little Maids” from The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan, “Much More” from The Fantasticks, and “Agony” from Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Other music on the program comes from Weber’s Der Freischütz, Offenbach’s La Perichole, and Sondheim’s Assassins.

The program is directed by Wendy Jones, who recently joined the Brevard College music faculty. Jones brings vast performance experience to Brevard, including opera, musical theatre, jazz, one woman shows, and theme park revues. Pianist Vance Reese will accompany the singers.

The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Kathryn Gresham at greshakb@brevard.edu.
