Buncombe County Special Olympics information session May 18

Families, Fans, Volunteers, Coaches, and Athletes Invited to Learn More about Buncombe County Special Olympics

Members of the public are invited to Lord Auditorium on the lower level of Pack Memorial Library at 67 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801 on May 18 from 6pm to 7:30pm in order to learn more about the Buncombe County Special Olympics.  The meeting will be held in a drop-in style format and attendees are invited to stop by at any time during the meeting.  Potential families, fans, volunteers, coaches, athletes, and anyone interested in learning how they can become involved in a program designed to help children and adults with intellectual disabilities develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

This meeting is to bring awareness to the community about Buncombe County Special Olympics and to help recruit additional participants, committee members, and coaches in order to build a stronger program.

Buncombe County Special Olympics relies on passionate volunteers to help represent Buncombe County within a statewide program which involves nearly 40,000 registered athletes who train and compete in year-round programs in 19 different sports.  In order to improve and expand the program, Buncombe County Special Olympics is soliciting participants from the wider community.

Current athletes, coaches, and volunteers with Buncombe County Special Olympics will be on hand to answer questions about the program.
