Buncombe County Juvenile Detention Center may close

From Black Mountain News:

A state Senate budget proposal would shut a facility that houses juvenile defendants from Western North Carolina who are awaiting trial.
Senate budget writers also proposed closing Buncombe Correctional Center in Woodfin and the Julian F. Keith Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center in Black Mountain.

The closures are included in the spending plan of about $21 billion for each of the next two years approved Thursday by the Senate.

Does this mean that we can soon look forward to the opening of one of those corporate, for-profit prisons I’ve been reading so many terrible things about? The NC republicans have gotten themselves a reputation for pushing that kind of amoral balderdash on WNC lately.
