Cabaret Jazz Dinner Series: “Have Yourself a Swingin’ Little Christmas” on Dec. 20

The White Horse Black Mountain continues its popular Cabaret Jazz Dinner Concert series with a special holiday treat, “Have Yourself A Swingin’ Little Christmas” on Friday, December 20 at 8:00 pm. Vocalist Wendy Jones and pianist Michael Jefry Stephens present a sassy, swinging’ and sentimental family-friendly show that will stir memories of Christmas past and put listeners in the spirit for Christmas present.

Both performers can boast impressive resumes. Following an eight year career on the voice faculty of Appalachian State University, Wendy Jones embarked on a full time professional singing/acting career which has taken her to club and cabaret venues from the Southeast to Tokyo. She’s appeared in many professional theater productions and was one of nine singers chosen for Tokyo Disney’s Broadway review ENCORE! Between contracted engagements she’s also a headliner and lead production singer/dancer on cruise ships. She’s currently on the faculty of UNCA and the Music Academy-Asheville, where she teaches classical and jazz vocal techniques.

Pianist Michael Jefry Stevens has a history with some of the most important figures in modern jazz, and has been in the forefront of the the NYC and international improvised music scenes. The Fonda/Stevens Group, a quartet that coalesced out of Stevens’ work with trumpeter Dave Douglas, is one of the most successful touring units in modern jazz, with 12 recordings to their name. A prolific musician, Stevens has released over 75 Cds with various configurations.

Together, Wendy Jones and Michael Jefry Stevens have established a scintillating rapport that will be on full display as they perform holiday favorites from Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, Eartha Kitt. and many more.

Concert-goers can add to their holiday pleasure by arriving at the White Horse early for a delicious dinner catered by Black Mountain Bistro, served from 6:30-7:30. Advance reservations are required for the meal and can be made by calling the White Horse at 828-669-0816.
