Campaign for constitutional amendment announces Aug. 8 press conference in Asheville

Press release from We the People N.C. Campaign:

Press Conference, Monday, August 8, 11 AM, in Front of the Federal Courthouse, 100 Otis Street, in Asheville, NC to Announce the Kick-off of the Petition Drive for a Statewide Ballot Measure, in North Carolina.

“We, the people of the State of North Carolina, respectfully request a proposed ballot measure be put forth in the 2018 General Election to be voted upon by the people of North Carolina. This ballot measure, known and cited as the “We the People Act,” declares that the people of North Carolina support amending the Constitution of the United States to firmly establish that money is not speech and that human beings, not corporations or other artificial entities, are “natural persons” entitled to constitutional rights.”

This petition is currently being co-sponsored by:

  • Charlotte Area We the People
  • Corporations Ain’t People (Jackson, Macon, Swain Counties)
  • Greenpeace, NC
  • NC WARN
  • Occupy WNC
  • The Canary Coalition
  • The Climate Times
  • United to Restore Democracy (Asheville-Buncombe County)

Representatives from some of these organizations will be present at the press conference, on August 8, to speak and answer questions from the press.
