ASHEVILLE – Newly-elected governor, Patrick McCrory, presented CarePartners President and CEO Tracy Buchanan with the Award of Excellence Level 2 milestone at the North Carolina Hospital Association’s (NCHA) annual gathering Feb. 20 in Raleigh.
CarePartners Health Services has attained Level 2 status from the North Carolina Awards for Excellence. This designation signifies the company’s continuing efforts in the area of performance excellence. CarePartners received a Level 1 involvement award in 2011.
“At CarePartners, we strive daily for excellent service to each individual person we serve,” said Buchanan. “Having the North Carolina Award for Excellence bestowed upon us for a second year, and at the Level 2, is a great affirmation that we are getting it right for those we serve in Western North Carolina.”
CarePartners received high marks in areas such as having a well-deployed and systematic annual process of setting strategic targets for its strategic objectives, thereby reinforcing its value of accountability. CarePartners was also noted for its systematic process for performance review, including a regular meeting of its performance excellence steering committee. This process allows CarePartners to place greater attention on enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining a customer focus.
“When we look at our environment, there is no margin for waste,” said CarePartners vice president of performance excellence, Doug Thomson. “Excellence is not a destination,” he said, “it is becoming an organization that can improve.”
CarePartners Health Services serves North Carolina, Tennessee, and Upstate South Carolina with an 80-bed rehabilitation hospital and five outpatient rehabilitation locations. In addition, it has a 27-bed solace/hospice center and provides home health, home hospice, palliative care, adult day, private duty, and orthotics and prosthetics services.
About the award
The North Carolina Awards for Excellence, facilitated by the Industrial Extension Service, is based on the prominent Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The organizations that receive this honor have met rigorous criteria that have been benchmarked against the best performing organizations. The program has established four levels, or steps, to achieving the Baldrige award: involvement, commitment, advancement and leadership.
IES provides assessments, a detailed feedback report and subsequent coaching and mentoring guidance for participating organizations throughthe Performance Excellence Program.
The Baldrige Criteria is a framework for evaluating an organization’s processes, the processes impacts on results, and progress toward their goals and objectives.
