Carolina Ceili hosts the 2nd Annual Celtic Yulefest at White Horse Black Mountain, Dec. 12

Press release:

However you spell it — ceili in Irish Gaelic or ceilidh in Scots Gaelic (and both pronounced kay-lee) — the word means the same: A gathering of friends to celebrate with music, dance, and general merriment. All can be found at the 2nd Annual Celtic Yulefest on December 12. Join Carolina Ceili and special guests The Madrigal Muses for an evening of celtic music, dance, and refreshments to celebrate the holiday season.

The word Yule comes from the Old English “geol” which was the name of the winter festival held in many European countries around the time of the winter solstice. These days most people associate the word “yule” with Christmas, yule logs, and yule cakes, but no matter how you celebrate, this Yulefest will help you get into the holiday spirit.

Carolina Ceili will be performing a variety of holiday songs including Irish jigs and reels to get you dancing in your seat, beautiful ballads with 4-part harmonies to bring a tear to your eye, and singalongs and general silliness to have you laughing out loud.

In addition, special guests The Madrigal Muses, comprised of Paula Bishop and Sherman Hoover, will be performing several of their lovely a capella carols of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, as well as a selection of hammered dulcimer tunes.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and the price includes light refreshments at the intermission. Last year’s show was a packed house, so get your tickets early and don’t miss this VERY special show.

Carolina Ceili consists of Maggie Anderson on bodhran (Irish frame drum), pennywhistle, and vocals, Laurie Fisher on fiddle, pennywhistle, and vocals, Darlyne Cain on guitar, piano, and vocals, and Marcos Harkness on mandolin and vocals.
