The WNC Cheese Trail was formed in 2012 by a small group of independent artisan cheesemakers with the intent of promoting the production and sale of WNC artisan cheeses, facilitating consumer education and encouraging tourism to the region to benefit local cheesemakers. The primary tool of the organization is the WNC Cheese Trail map that was designed and printed in 2013. The purpose of the map is to encourage locals and tourists to seek out member cheesemakers to buy handmade, traditionally crafted cheeses direct from the producer. It is also intended as a tool for restaurants, retailers and distributors to find local cheesemakers. For more information contact Rachel English Brown at rerin.english@gmail.com
