Celebrate the Arts event opens Oct. 25

From a press release:

Celebrate the Arts event opens Oct. 25

Tryon is a town rich in the arts, with deeply-rooted cultural traditions that go back almost to its founding. One of the early incubators of the arts in Tryon was Lanier Library, which was founded in 1889. A small group of women began organizing literary and cultural events for the town, and so helped to cultivate an environment that has led to the amazingly rich and diverse arts community that exists in Tryon today.

For the first time, you can come visit the Tryon arts organizations all in one place.

Tryon Fine Arts Center, The Upstairs Artspace, Tryon Painters & Sculptors, Tryon Writers, Lanier Library, Tryon Little Theater, and the Book Shelf will all be hosted by Tryon Arts & Crafts School for a big day of art, music, authors, and poets provided by the arts organizations of Tryon.

This Celebrate the Arts event is designed to be a showcase of the Tryon arts community. We want you to join us in celebrating the long and rich cultural history of Tryon. We want you to have the opportunity to talk with all of the arts organizations of Tryon, and find out all that each one offers. We want to offer you a full day of fun, and a presentation of all of the arts in one place-visual, literary, and performing arts.

Tryon Mayor Jim Wright says: “It is great to see the arts, crafts, and writers come together for a combined event. I hope it will be a successful demonstration of what they can do by collaborating. We are a community with a lot of resources, but those resources are not limitless. Thanks to all participating organizations for working together on this event. I hope the attendance is ‘standing room only.'”

The event opens Saturday (the 25th) at 10am at Tryon Arts & Crafts School at Harmon Field. Arts organizations will be set up inside the building with art exhibits, art for sale, books & tickets for sale, and information about who they are and what they do.

Outside there will be a collection of vendors offering wonderful gift items for sale representing both traditional and contemporary fine craft. Outdoors at the Tryon Arts & Crafts forge, blacksmiths will be at work off and on all day long.

Inside the School, every studio will have artists and artisans demonstrating their work throughout the day in weaving, pottery, glasswork, fiber art/surface design, woodworking, silversmithing, and other forms of jewelry-making. You will have an opportunity to sign up for upcoming classes that take place in these studios while you are at this event.

Outside in the courtyard, the Tryon Writers will read at 10:30 and the Lanier Library poets will read at 1:00pm. The Tryon Fine Arts Center’s “5 Cent Band” will perform at 11:30am and 2:00pm.

Add to that BBQ and chili provided by Foothills BBQ and what is forecast to be a beautiful fall day… and you have a full day of fun and cultural experiences with something for everyone. The event lasts through 5pm.

Celebrate with us all that Tryon has to offer. For more information and directions to the event, go to TryonArtsandCrafts.org/Celebrate or call 828-859-8323. Tryon Arts & Crafts School is located at 373 Harmon Field Rd, Tryon, NC.
