Chestnut tree planting at Navitat Mon. Oct. 29 – Postponed due to weather concerns

Press release

from Navitat Canopy Adventures

Navitat staff and members of the American Chestnut Association will plant 8 different chestnut saplings in our meadow near the Welcome Center as part of a “demonstration orchard.” The orchard will allow us to better communicate with guests the story of the blight that decimated American Chestnut trees in the early 1900s, as well as what the Association is doing today to try to restore the American Chestnut.

Long-term, the goal is for this plot of trees to be available to the Association for research purposes.

Take I-26 (US 19/23) to the Jupiter/Barnardsville exit (Exit15).
Take Barnardsville Highway (NC 197) east for 6 miles to the
town of Barnardsville.
At the Barnardsville Post Office, turn left onto Poverty Branch
Road (SR2171).
Take Poverty Branch Road north 1.5 miles to Navitat Canopy
Adventures. Entrance will be on your left.
