CleanUp Candler community meeting April 9

From a press release:

WHAT: CleanUp Candler community meeting April 9

WHEN: Thursday, April 9, 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Enka Middle School – Multipurpose Room

With more than 100 people expected at the event, we have moved the location to accommodate the crowd.

For the past 2 years or more, many community groups and individuals have been working independently to help resolve our community cleanup needs. CleanUp Candler is hoping to bring everyone together in one place to better identify our challenges, boost volunteer turnout, ask questions and work together on solutions. Feedback from the community will be used as a guideline for the meeting agenda and will include roadside litter clean up and prevention, Buncombe County code enforcement questions, crime prevention and the Enka Jet restoration plans.

Elected officials and various department representatives will be on hand to answer questions including the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Buncombe County Planning & Zoning, Buncombe County Crime Prevention and Asheville Greenworks. Elected officials confirmed to attend as of the date of this announcement are US Congressman mark Meadows, NC State House Representative Brian Turner, Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan, and Chairman of the Buncombe County Commission, David Gantt. Other elected officials have indicated they may also attend but were unable to confirm this far in advance.

This is a true community group with over 950 members joining in just one week. Volunteers for CleanUp Candler have offered to monitor the requests for community needs, collect ideas, coordinate roadside clean up events and facilitate the meeting for the community. Additional elected official or agency confirmations will be announced as they are received on the Facebook page CleanUp Candler found here: https://www.facebook.com/cleanupcandler.

We encourage all Candler citizens to become involved in cleaning up Candler by bringing their questions to the meeting and signing up for volunteer opportunities available that night.

Please direct any meeting questions to cleanupcandler@gmail.com
