Conservancy nonprofit hosts state-forest presentation April 15 in Brevard

How did the 8,000-acre conservation project at the East Fork Headwaters near Brevard get its start? What’s the history of the property, and how how does it benefit residents and visitors of Transylvania County? The Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy will hold a presentation and panel discussion about North Carolina’s newest state forest on Wednesday, April 15, in Brevaqrd from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Transylvania County Main Branch Library.

CMLC to Host Headwaters State Forest Presentation & Panel Wednesday, April 15, in Brevard

Join Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy (CMLC), Wednesday April 15th for a presentation featuring the Headwaters State Forest. Learn how the 8,000-acre conservation project at the East Fork Headwaters got its start, the history of the property, and how its benefits will impact residents and visitors of Transylvania County. Project stakeholders will give an update on the current status of acquisition at North Carolina’s newest State Forest as well as plans to complete the project.

Presenters include Kieran Roe, Executive Director of CMLC; Michael Cheek, Assistant Regional Forester of Region 3, NC Forest Service; Bill Holman, NC State Director of The Conservation Fund; and Justin Boner, NC Director of Real Estate of The Conservation Fund.

This program was rescheduled from February 26th and is now part of the April CMLC Speaker Series events—held monthly across the land trust’s service area of Henderson and Transylvania counties. It will be held in Brevard at the Transylvania County Main Branch Library from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The event is co-sponsored by the NC Cooperative Extension. It is free and open to the public.

CMLC conserves land and water resources to benefit the quality of life of residents and visitors in Henderson, Transylvania, and surrounding counties. Since 1994, the land trust has protected more than 28,000 acres of naturally significant lands in our mountains.
