Creative writing scholarship winners read at Malaprop’s, April 17

Winners of UNC Asheville’s undergraduate writing scholarship will read at Malaprop’s on Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m.

UNC Asheville’s undergraduate writing scholarship winners will present their works at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 17, at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. The event is free and open to the public. Authors include Emily Bonner, Sarah Gibson, Kimberly LaBombard and Jozef Lisowski.

Emily Bonner, an Asheville native, is a rising senior majoring in literature at UNC Asheville and recipient of the Topp/Grillot Poetry Scholarship. Bonner also is pursuing teaching licensure for grades 6-12.

Sarah Gibson, also a recipient of the Topp/Grillot Poetry Scholarship, is a junior at UNC Asheville. Her poetry has been published in Words Dance online magazine.

Kimberly LaBombard, also a winner of the Topp/Grillot Poetry Scholarship, recently graduated from UNC Asheville with a major in literature, and is currently employed as a researcher for a start-up website.

Jozef Lisowski is a senior literature major and anthropology minor at UNC Asheville, and recipient of the Comfort Scholarship for fiction writing. Lisowski is a member of Metabolism, UNC Asheville’s student arts collective, and his poems have appeared in FreezeRay Poetry, decomP, Headwaters, and the Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, among other journals.
