Ethereal surrealist illustrator Hannah Weaver will host an art showing — her debut at the Crow and Quill — on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 9 p.m.

“I’m a baby to the art world, but I know my heart lies in illustration, storybook and graphic novel,” she says. “My materials mostly consist of pencil, colored pencil, acrylic and fine-point pens.”

The young artist says she is inspired by the dark side of fairy tales, despite attempts to portray lighter subject matter. Her black and white illustrations, often accompanied by fire-themed pastels, consistently manifest as an ominous grace.

“If I try to draw a pretty little flower, it somehow ends up looking scary. I guess that’s how it wants to be,” she says.
