Cullowhee Mountain ARTS “Summer ARTS Series” adds creative writing workshops

Creative Writers to Join the Cullowhee Mountain ARTS “Summer ARTS Series” on the campus of Western Carolina University and “Artist and Writer Retreats + Workshops” at Lake Logan Retreat Center.

Cullowhee Mountain ARTS, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, is celebrating its upcoming third season. “We are exciting to be adding Creative Writing Workshops, taught by nationally recognized writers, as part of the 2014 Summer ARTS Series of artists’ workshops, held at Western Carolina University and our new Artist and Writer Retreats + Workshop at beautiful Lake Logan Retreat Center.”

During the months of June and July, adult life-long learners will be traveling to Western North Carolina from as far as California, Vermont, Ontario, Costa Rica and Hong Kong to learn from a faculty of stellar, teaching artists and writers. The addition of Creative Writing Workshops is the next step for Cullowhee Mountain ARTS reaching its long-range goal – to become a summer destination for adult learners in all the arts. This non-profit organization, directed by Norma Hendrix, has become nationally recognized in just two and a half years. “We began with Visual Arts workshops and programming, which is my field, but are ready now to start adding programming in other disciplines in the arts,” says Hendrix. “Creative Writing is our addition this season and by 2022 the CMA board of directors and I would like to see music, film, dance and theater all be represented during the annual Summer ARTS Series.”

Another addition to the 2014 Cullowhee Mountain ARTS programming are two “Artist & Writer Retreats with Workshop” at Lake Logan Retreat Center, in Canton, North Carolina, just 15 minutes out from Waynesville, NC.

The Summer ARTS Series is held at Western Carolina University in the Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center, and runs for five weeks, June 15 – July 26, 2014. The Artist Retreats + Workshops at Lake Logan Retreat Center are May 18 – 23, and September 15 – 21, 2014.
