Diali Cissokho and Kaira Ba play a free show at Asheville Music Hall, June 26

Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba announces a free show in Asheville in support of their new album The Great Peace, presented by Charlie Traveler Presents. The band will perform at Asheville Music Hall (31 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801) on Thursday June 26 at 10pm.

About the Band: Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba is a unique synthesis of ancient and modern. Cissokho’s singing and kora playing brings generations of Senegalese griot tradition to the group and is matched by the excellent musicianship and fiery arrangements of Kaira Ba. The band’s sound is simultaneously universal and utterly distinctive.

Press: “Diali Cissokho, Kaira Ba’s bandleader and kora player, hails from a long line of Griot musicians in Senegal. But moving an ocean away from his musical past has only strengthened Cissokho’s resolve to enliven the traditional sound. With four Tar Heel natives behind him, Cissokho & Kaira Ba create a universally appealing sound full of bright tones and driving polyrhythm.” – PASTE

“Kaira Ba just might be [North Carolina’s] next great export.” – GRAYSON CURRIN (Pitchfork, The Independent Weekly)

Tickets for Asheville Music Hall are FREE. Opening the show will be Asheville’s Jamar Woods Trio.
