Dr. Jacob M. Appel to speak at Novels & Novelties

Appel's first novel, The Man Who Wouldn't Stand Up, won the 2012 Dundee International Book Award. He has also won the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Award, the New Millennium Writings Fiction Award (on four occasions), the Boston Review Short Fiction Competition, and many others.

Press release:

On Thursday, Sept. 8th author, bioethicist, physician, lawyer and social critic Jacob M. Appel will talk about his books and writing career at Novels & Novelties Bookstore in downtown Hendersonville, NC.

Appel, who resides in New York, wears many hats. He is a psychiatrist, holds a JD from Harvard Law School, is a respected bioethicist, earned his MFA from NYU, has won many awards for his writing, and taught most recently at Brown University.

“When does this man sleep?” is perhaps one of the questions Ken Butcher will pose during Appel’s visit. Local author Ken Butcher will interview Appel, followed by a question and answer session with the audience. Like Appel, author Butcher has worn many seemingly disparate hats. Butcher ran a research lab, has an engineering company, and procured more than 15 patents including several dealing with varying applications and forms of ceramics. And Butcher is also an author whose novel The Middle of the Air has garnered multiple awards.

Appel’s first novel, The Man Who Wouldn’t Stand Up, won the 2012 Dundee International Book Award. He has also won the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Award, the New Millennium Writings Fiction Award (on four occasions), the Boston Review Short Fiction Competition, and many others.

Tickets are $5 for this event, and space is limited. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended, by calling 828-697-1870 or visiting NovelsandNovelties.com
