Due to wind conditions, U.S. Forest Service postpones Bent Creek proscribed burn

The U.S. Forest Service has postponed the prescribed fire tentatively scheduled for tomorrow, March 7, due to predicted high winds. Fire managers will continue to watch weather forecasts for opportunities to implement the burn plan this month.

The prescribed fire is part of a multi-year research study by the Bent Creek Experimental Forest, a silviculture research unit of the Southern Research Station. The project will help researchers better understand the effects and benefits of prescribed fire in mountain-hardwood forests.
