Brooklyn-based electro-rock duo Dynasty Electric just competed work on the album A Million Words of Love. It was written and recorded while living in a mountain cabin in Brevard. The band plays an album release show at The Phoenix on Friday, March 27.

Press release from promoters:

Dynasty Electric, an electronic rock duo hailing from Brooklyn, NY, has written and recorded a new album ‘A Million Words of Love’ while living in Brevard, NC.  Produced in a mountain cabin, the album incorporates elements of folk and country into the group’s eclectic electronic sound.  They will be performing live at an album release party on Friday March 27 at The Phoenix (14 S Gaston St., Brevard).

According to Seth Misterka, the group’s producer, guitarist, and sax player, “After more than a decade in New York, we retreated to Brevard on the advice of an energy medicine healer.  We actually hadn’t intended to write a new album, it happened naturally, spontaneously.  We were rejuvenated and inspired by the mountains, the fresh air, the waterfalls, and the people we met.  We started jamming on our porch with our acoustic guitars and the songs seemed to just write themselves.  The cabin ended up being a great little recording studio, like a small chapel of wood.’

His partner is Jenny Electrik, the group’s lead vocalist and theremin player.  Together they forged a career in the New York music scene, rising out of the Brooklyn warehouse party circuit to ultimately score music for Victoria’s Secret, Microsoft, Bath & Bodyworks, and MTV2, and perform at the city’s top venues like Bowery Ballroom and Webster Hall.  Along the way they recorded with esteemed artists such as DJ Logic and Vernon Reid of Living Color, made an album with Dame Dash and Ski Beatz, toured with The Meat Puppets, Paul Oakenfold, and Girltalk, and performed at festivals around the world such as Burning Man, SXSW, CMJ and Summerfest.

Their new album is a turning point in the band’s discography.  “Unlike our previous albums, this album was written completely on acoustic guitar, so the acoustic sound is really at the heart of things. There is still an electronic element here too.  There’s drum machines, synths, and theremin – which has a supernatural quality to it and happens to be made by Moog Music in Asheville.  We call this music electro-folk. We’ve come around full circle. I grew up listening to folk and blues as well as Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, The Flaming Lips and other artists that fuse acoustic and electric music in new ways and that’s the ground we’ve been exploring these days.’

The group produced a music video in Brevard for the album’s first single ‘The Best Days’. The video takes the viewer on a trip around the area with scenes shot at Cathey’s Creek Falls, Devil’s Courthouse, and High Falls. It also features a cameo by the White Squirrel at a surrealistic tea party at Coffee Carts Studio, a popular new cafe on Rosman Highway that doubles as an artist studio space. It was there that the album’s artwork was created by local painter Billy Smith.

The lead song of the album, ‘Om Shiva’, draws inspiration from the cannabis smoking monks of India and features an infectious country-reggae sound. The title track ‘A Million Words of Love’ is based on a mantra for White Tara, the Buddhist deity of love and compassion.  ‘Just Believe’ is a sweet folk ballad about the mysteries of the universe with acoustic guitars, synth pads, theremin and drum machine.

The album is now available on the band’s website www.dynastyelectric.net
