Local Pottery Company to Open Downtown Asheville Design + Home Goods Store

Founded in 2009 and based in rural Madison County, Asheville-area ceramics company East Fork Pottery will open their flagship store in Downtown Asheville at 82 N Lexington Avenue on Sunday, November 27th (fingers crossed!). The store will sell the entire range of the new East Fork Collection and one-of-a-kind pieces from their wood kiln. The store will also feature fine and useful objects for the home in a wide range of mediums, from makers, designers and companies who share a commitment to functional beauty. Objects range in origin from Asheville to Japan and Denmark.

The 900 square foot space is designed by Karie Reinertson and Rob Maddox of Shelter Design Studio, who describe the build-out of the store as “Contemporary Shaker meets rustic Foxfire mountain vibes.”

In addition to functioning as a retail space, East Fork will host food and beverage events, book signings, art openings and other community and cultural gatherings. East Fork Founder Alex Matisse says of the store, “We’ve always wanted a space to present our new line of work in a clean and deliberate way. The space also serves as the container for us to collect and share other beautiful, quirky or personally meaningful objects. There will be a mix of items for the home from rustic ceramic Japanese cooking vessel to brushes and dustpans from the iconic Swedish company Iris Hantverk and 35 other makers from Asheville and beyond.

“As East Fork matures there is an increasing aesthetic tension we are trying to understand between our past and our future, minimalism and the natural chaos of life, hand and machine,” Matisse continues. “I think that the warmest and calmest of spaces embrace all of that.”

The store will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the holiday season. Please join them on Sunday, November 27th, for drinks, snacks and, of course, shopping.
