ECO hosts Earth Stewardship Day on Saturday, April 27

Press release from
ECO, Environmental and Conservation Organization, of Hendersonville

ECO will be hosting its second annual Earth Stewardship Day event on April 27th in honor of Earth Day. In the past, ECO has hosted a fun-filled family day on the campus of Blue Ridge Community College, but last year the environmental non-profit decided to create a day of ecological service projects across Henderson County. This year’s event will carry that momentum forward for another day of service that will leave lasting legacies in our local neighborhoods. The projects are focused on engaging community members— families, church and school groups, civic organizations, businesses, and local government departments— in meaningful stewardship projects that will positively impact the environment while promoting community cohesiveness.

ECO is working with local and regional partners to create exciting volunteer opportunities for this year’s event. These projects include planting seedlings in a constructed wetland with Henderson County Soil and Water Conservation District, planting and building raised garden beds at the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy Community Arboretum, orchard planting with the City of Hendersonville Tree Board and the Boys and Girls Club, planting raised garden beds and weatherizing at the Girl Scout Hut, stormwater mitigation with Blue Ridge Community College Environmental Conservation Club, trail maintenance at Holmes Educational State Forest and more.

These projects will take place from 9am until 2pm, and then all participants can reconvene until 4pm for a large picnic and musical celebration. Join ECO and all its partners for a promising day of hands-on, environmental activities that will be enjoyed throughout the county for years to come! Volunteers should sign-up through ECO to participate in any of the projects.

Earth Stewardship Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, from 9-4. The rain date will be Saturday, May 4.
