Enka High School student dies following car accident

Press Release

From Buncombe County Schools:

(ASHEVILLE)‐ An Enka High School student, involved in a car accident this afternoon, has died. The student, 15‐year‐old Christopher Taylor, had attended football practice at the school earlier in the day. He was scheduled to be a sophomore for the 2014‐2015 school year.

Jeffrey Frady, Enka High School Head Football Coach, has canceled football practice tomorrow following today’s accident.

“Chris was an outstanding person, athlete, and an important part of our Enka family. It’s important for our players to have a chance to come to grips with this tragedy,” Coach Frady said. “He loved this team, and we will faithfully honor his memory. I promise you that.”

Crisis Support personnel from around the school system will be at the high school providing counseling services for any student and staff requesting them. These services will remain as long as they are needed.

“Our hearts are heavy today,” Enka High School Principal Edwin Spivey said. “I have no doubt Chris had a promising future. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, teammates, and our Enka faculty and staff.”

Dr. Tony Baldwin, Superintendent of Schools, said, “Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to this young man and his family during this most difficult time. “

The accident reportedly occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. off Enka Lake Road. The investigation is being conducted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
