Equinox Night Carnival benefit for nonprofit hero, Steven Liebnhaut

From a press release:

Equinox Night Carnival benefit for nonprofit hero, Steven Liebnhaut

Celebrate the arrival of autumn in Asheville with an Equinox Night Carnival held for local nonprofit organizer Steven Liebenhaut, who’s raised thousands of dollars for local charities and now faces a cancer diagnosis and ongoing income loss.

Face painting, henna body art, tarot card readers, and great country rock tunes from Red Honey: with a sound like the secret love child of Johnny Cash and Grace Slick, Red Honey appears alongside a west side smorgasbord of carnival fun from Hit and Run Henna, Asheville Face and Body Art and more.

Can’t make it? No problem. Organizers have a donation page that’s collected funds for Liebenhaut’s living expenses since June:

Many Amazing Savings/Hopey & Co. shoppers know Liebenhaut as the friendly cashier and self-described “head flirt” at locations downtown and on Sweeten Creek Road. He’s also a veteran benefit-concert organizer, and one of the masterminds behind the Saute Community Cafe, a pay-what-you-can nonprofit cafe planned for Asheville.

When he turned 50 in 2008, Liebenhaut began organizing charity benefit concerts on or near his birthday, raising thousands for local charities like Loving Food Resources, an Asheville-based nonprofit that provides food to local people living with HIV/AIDS, or in home hospice care. His first event alone raised over $5,000.

Now that Liebenhaut faces a cancer diagnosis and indefinite income loss, his community from Amazing Savings and beyond is invited to give back to the giver with a series of benefits to help him pay his mortgage and living expenses while living without work income. Direct donations to Liebenhaut’s sustaining fund can be made here.

It’s not just friends of Liebenhaut who are invited to the Equinox Night Carnival September 26. Everyone is invited to have a drink, enjoy some west side carnival magic, rock out to Red Honey and welcome fall with music and celebration.
