Exhibits by Erin Canady, UNC Asheville Students Open in Campus Galleries with Oct. 21 Receptions

Exhibits by Erin Canady and by UNC Asheville Students Open in Campus Galleries with Oct. 21 Receptions

Durham-based artist Erin Canady and UNC Asheville’s Art Front student organization will open new exhibits in UNC Asheville galleries with receptions from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. The exhibitions and receptions are free and open to everyone.

Canady, who also has a solo exhibition this fall at The Carrack Modern Art in Durham, earned her MFA at UNC-Chapel Hill last spring and won the top prize for outstanding MFA work. Canady is a 2011 BFA graduate from UNC Asheville. Her works have been shown this year at group exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York City, as well as Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Concord in North Carolina. Canady’s exhibition, to shape, of thought, features works in video and drawing, and will be on view at the Owen Hall Second Floor Gallery, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 11.

Art Front, UNC Asheville’s visual arts student organization, will present an exhibit of works by its members in the Highsmith Art and Intercultural Gallery. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday. The Art Front show also will remain on view through Nov. 11.
