Festiva Hospitality Group donates $7,000-plus to Pisgah Legal Services

Festiva Hospitality Group has announced that it is making a donation of more than $7,000 to Pisgah Legal Services (PLS), a community-based nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal assistance to low-income people throughout Western North Carolina. Each year, PLS helps more than 12,000 low-income people meet their most basic needs for housing, safety, health care, food and education.

“Pisgah Legal Services is a wonderful organization to have in our community that improves and saves people’s lives every day in ways that could not have otherwise been possible. As an attorney, I personally see the value of this service, and as a company Festiva would like to recognize the value of PLS to the Asheville area,” said Tobias Weas, General Counsel for Festiva Hospitality Group.

In addition to 44 staff members, more than 300 volunteer attorneys provide free legal services to PLS clients. Brooks Gaylord, Corporate Counsel for Festiva, is among the group of attorneys who donate more than 3,500 pro bono hours of legal services per year.

PLS helps to meet the basic needs of battered women, the working poor, disadvantaged or abused children, the elderly and people with disabilities. The legal expertise provided by PLS and its volunteers address a variety of social problems through several programs with specific focuses such as protection from abuse, avoiding homelessness, safe housing, health care and subsistence income.

“Pisgah Legal Services is very grateful for the support of Festiva. In these difficult economic times, we depend on the generosity of the community and partners like Festiva help us to meet the critical needs of families in western North Carolina,” said Tina Owen, Director of Development at PLS.

Festiva is honored to be a part of the PLS community. Through the Festiva Charitable Fund, managed by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, Festiva has made donations over the years to several nonprofit organizations in the Asheville area and in areas where our resorts are located. Festiva typically seeks out organizations that promote education and eliminate poverty, and PLS works hard to do those things and so much more. Festiva’s donation qualifies as a Partners for Justice Sponsorship level with PLS.

Festiva’s decision to donate to PLS was guided by several of the company’s core values, which not only play a role in our individual employees’ every day actions but also guide the company as a whole. Festiva would like to thank PLS for the services they provide to the community and for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of what they do.
