Flat Rock Playhouse to Host a One Night Only Staged Reading of the Pulitzer Prize Winning Play Wit to Benefit Pardee Hospital Foundation; Proceeds from the October 24 event will support the Foundation’s Women Helping Women initiative.

Hendersonville, NC – Flat Rock Playhouse and Pardee Hospital Foundation have partnered to produce a one night only staged reading of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit, on October 24 at 6pm at the Flat Rock Playhouse Downtown. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Pardee Hospital Foundation’s Women Helping Women initiative which helps women who are uninsured or under-insured receive a mammogram or another important screening that can prevent and treat cancers, heart disease, osteoporosis, and other threatening medical conditions. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by calling the Flat Rock Playhouse box office at 828.693.0731 or visiting flatrockplayhouse.org.

“We are proud to be partnering with Pardee Hospital Foundation and helping support the Women Helping Women initiative,” said Lisa K. Bryant, Artistic Director of the Flat Rock Playhouse. “This is such an important program and we want to invite the community to show their support by joining us for this one night only staged reading of a truly powerful play.”

Wit was written by playwright Margaret Edson who drew upon her own experience working in a hospital as inspiration for this heartfelt and moving exploration of kindness and compassion and the value of human relationship told through the lens of one woman’s experience with cancer and her own mortality.

“We felt like this play and its exploration into the world of cancer from one woman’s perspective would be a moving tribute to the countless number of women and men who endure and survive cancer diagnoses,” said Kim Hinkelman, Executive Director for the Pardee Hospital Foundation. “For a minimal contribution, and one night of quality performance, people in our community can make a big impact in the lives of women facing serious health diagnosis.”

The cast of the staged reading of Wit includes Flat Rock Playhouse Vagabonds Paige Posey, Preston Dyar, Ben Mackel, Neela Munoz, Janie Bushway, Christian Carmean, Olivia Palmer and Jon Graham. It will be directed by Artist Director Lisa K. Bryant.
