Press release from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission:

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is offering a free photography workshop on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education in Brevard.

“Outdoor Smart Phone Photography,” taught by center educator and photographer Jennifer Rowe, will cover the basics of photographing wildlife and their habitats using a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet. During the classroom portion of the workshop, participants will learn how to control camera settings, such as focus and exposure; how and when to use filters and the HDR mode; what photo editing and third-party camera apps to use; and how to share and print images. The principles of good composition, such as the rule of thirds, framing and patterns and cropping, will also be covered. Participants also will spend time outside taking photographs and trying out new techniques with Rowe providing hands-on guidance.

“This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to use and share their mobile imagery more effectively and creatively,” Rowe said. “We advise everyone to wear sturdy shoes, bring their phone or tablet fully charged and enjoy a morning of learning and clicking.”

Rowe, an accomplished and skilled photographer, has a certification from the New York Institute of Photography and has been teaching photography classes for the Pisgah Center for 10 years.

The class is open to participants 12 years old and up and is limited to 15 people on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pre-registration is required by registering online. For questions, email Rowe at Jennifer.rowe@ncwildlife.org or call 828-877-4423.
