Brevard 4th Friday Gallery Walks Kick-Off April 22

Enjoy an evening stroll in downtown Brevard, NC as you explore art, music, wine, and beer.  Twenty five downtown art galleries, retail stores and restaurants will be participating in the 2016 Gallery Walks from 5pm– 8pm on the 4th Friday’s from April- November. The December Gallery Walk is held on the 3rdFriday due to the Holidays.

Downtown art locales participating in Gallery Walks this year: Red Wolf Gallery, TC Arts Council, Number 7 Arts Gallery, The Haen Gallery, Trade-Arama Folk Art & Antiques, Hollingsworth Gallery, Local Color, Gravy, and be sure to check out our newest art members of Gallery Walk: Gallery at 44, Starfangled Press, Art Works, Underground Salvage Co. and Steve Owen & Associates. Other downtown businesses participating in Gallery Walks include: 185 King Street, D.D. Bullwinkel’s, Main Street Ltd., Theophilus, Broad Street Wines, Rocky’s Grill and Soda Shop, The Square Root, Jaime’s Creole Brasserie, Market at 36, Marco Trattoria, The Phoenix, Wine Down and opening in May – Magpie Meat & Three.

Special Happenings during the April 22 Gallery Walk:

The Oskar Blues Trolley will run during gallery walk from 6pm – 8pm. It will do continuous loops as you hop on board at the following locations: TC Arts Council, The Haen Gallery – Brevard Lumberyard Arts District, and in front of Hunters & Gatherers.

The TC Arts Council will host the 2016 Transylvania County Public Schools Art Exhibit with artwork by students in Kindergarten thru 12 grade.  Special performances at TC Arts include the Rosman Highliters Chorus at 5pm and the Davidson River Taiko Drummers at 5:30pm.

Red Wolf Gallery is proud to present at their first Gallery Walk of the season, some new artists   to the gallery. They will be showing the beautiful floral paintings of Monique Carr, from Montreal, Quebec who now lives over the mountain in Johnson City, Tenn.  They also are proud to show the new paintings of Sue Russell, artist, art teacher, and owner of the Hemlock Art School in Cedar Mtn. and Red Wolf is especially proud to announce that well known Atlanta artist and now resident of Brevard for a number of years, KENSON, has joined Red Wolf Gallery. They will also be showing the ceramics of Tom Homann of Comer, Georgia. Be sure to stop by next door at Steve Owen and Associates to meet Brevard’s young artist, Alana Merrell, who will be displaying her works of art!

 

 

Number 7 Arts is a cooperative art gallery run by 28 local artists who have been busy creating during the winter months and are excited to show off their new work. Number 7 will feature the work of three members: Joe Bruneau – Master Basket Maker, Louis Bishop -Pastel, Oil, Pen and Ink and the late Tom Atkins – Photography.

The Gallery at 44 located upstairs at Jaime’s Creole Brasserie features world-class abstract paintings, sculpture and pottery of artists Judith Duff, Jerry Domokur, Shozo Michikawa, Seungho Yang, and Jen Starwalt.

Art Works is a working studio and gallery of fine art by local artists, located next door to the grand lobby of the historic Aethelwald Hotel. Stop on by to meet the working artists Deborah Kidwell, Lee Abell and Virginia Pendergrass. Enjoy live bluegrass music in front of their shop during gallery walk.

Local Color welcomes you to come in and see new work from numbers of their wonderful artists and crafters. They have over eight new artists in the shop. Jeanette’s vintage repurposed jewelry, WAXON batik & dye studio’s wearable art, Red Daisy Art Designs leather cuffs and wallets, and Shelly’s pottery, to name a few. As usual, get your free hugs from Paul.

Main Street Ltd. will host a free wine tasting from 5pm to 7pm featuring Skyland Distributing. Doug Parker will be pouring new wines and offering great discounts. Come out and celebrate Spring with Main Street Ltd. Next door the Hollingsworth Gallery is hosting the Land of Waterfalls photographers; Kathy Hardy, Ed Law, Judy Thomas, Ken Voltz, John Orlin and Peter Jones. The exhibit will be on display for the month of April.

 

Starfangled Press will host an opening reception for Deep Water, an exhibition of new work from artist-printmaker Isaiah Jones.  Isaiah Jones was raised in the mountains of WNC. She received her BFA in Printmaking from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia in the fall of 2015. Jones works primarily with etching, mono-printing, and stenciling.

Trade-Arama is excited to welcome you back to Gallery Walk. Come visit and see fantastic new three-dimensional work by South Carolina artist, Silas DeKind, Jr. and interesting stencil-style works by new artist, Katherine Poynor.

Be sure to explore Gravy – an artisan retail market benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. Theophilus showcases art in the form of fashion, gifts and home décor, from local artists as well as artists from other regions. D.D. Bullwinkel’s is an eclectic mix of fun and useful goods for casual mountain living. Shop for outdoor clothing, comfy footwear, handcrafted pottery and jewelry. They will be serving beer, wine and their famous pimento cheese –  as featured in Southern Living.

Broad Street Wines invites you stop in during gallery walk for a free wine tasting.  The Phoenix will feature music at 9pm by Todd Cecil & BackSouth – Cigar Box – Swamp Rock. Wine Down will have music by Letters to Abigail and artwork on the walls by Anna Melton.

In the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District: 

Visit The Haen Gallery at 200 King Street in the Brevard Lumberyard Arts District for the Opening Exhibition of “Lumberyard Springtide… A Group Exhibition”. The show will feature new work by Haen Gallery artists like J. Aaron Alderman, Ben Nixon, Marlise Newman, and Mark Carter, as well as introduce the work of sculptors Rick Lazes and Kyle Lusk. Savor a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres while you enjoy a wide array of stunning paintings, photographs, and sculptures by dozens of artists.

Located behind The Haen Gallery is the new location of the Underground Salvage Co. They have over an acre of architectural salvage and vintage treasures. A wonderland for creative people looking for green alternatives to traditional art, craft, and building supplies. Original creations made with salvaged items. Enjoy complimentary Oskar Blues beer tasting.
