Fundraiser for local child with leukemia on Nov. 2

From a press release:

A fundraiser for Jacob Vanlandingham, who has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, will be held at the Millroom at Asheville Brewing Company, 66 Asheland Ave., on Sunday, Nov. 2 from noon to 7 p.m. The fundraiser is hosted by the Underdog Crew, a youth breakdancing troupe based in Asheville that has been featured on such shows as WLOS News 13 This Morning and Carolina CW62. During the fundraiser the Underdog Crew, DJ Brett Rock, funk band Uprock Citizens Brigade, and other special guests will take over the Mill Room for a day of music, dancing, and food.  The event is open to all members of the public.

Three-year-old Jacob has been part of the Underdog Crew, along with his mother and two older brothers. Jacob’s illness has been a financial hardship for the family, especially since Jacob’s mother is a single mom raising three boys on her own. The Underdog Crew decided to hold a fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting Jacob.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common type of childhood leukemia, affecting about 75% of all childhood blood cancer cases. But with advances in therapies and clinical trials the outlook for those children facing it is promising. With treatment the cure rate is between 85 and 90 percent.
