From press release:

Rosman, NC (October 13, 2014) Area girls ages 9-14 are invited to a SciGirls program Tuesday, October 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). Co-hosted by PARI and the Transylvania County 4-H, this month’s activity is “3D Design,” and will teach the girls how to design and construct 3D models.

“PARI offered a 3D modeling program for girls last summer, said PARI Education Director Christi Whitworth, “and this month’s program will use elements from that program to introduce our SciGirls to 3D design. We’re very fortunate to have Drew Phillips, a 3D designer and PARI volunteer, serve as a mentor for this session. Drew will show the girls how to use powerful 3D software called Blender to design and construct models. The highlight of the evening will be each girl recreating a scene as described by a witness. Prior participation in SciGirls is not required so we encourage all girls ages 9-14 to join us.”

The monthly SciGirls programs are co-hosted by PARI and Transylvania County 4-H, and affiliated with the national effort sponsored by Twin Cities Public Television to change the way girls think about science.

SciGirls events are typically scheduled each month during the school year. The participation fee is $10 per student. Program details, specific hours and registration details can be found on the PARI web site, www.pari.edu. Participants can register at www.pari.edu/programs/students/scigirls. Area teachers and parents are asked to encourage girls who may be interested. The national SciGirls web site is http://pbskids.org/scigirls.
