Go Wild with Herbs: Warren Wilson College hosts Earth Day event, Saturday, April 20

(Swannanoa) Local “Superstar” herbalists celebrate, collaborate and conserve at the first annual Go Wild with Herbs: An Earth Week Celebration at Warren Wilson College on April 20 (4.20) from 2pm to 9pm.

Go Wild With Herbs is an opportunity for those in the herbal community to come together to celebrate Earth Day. The event starts with a series of herb walks and indoor classes by some of the area’s favorite teachers; includes a panel discussion bringing together knowledgeable experts of the industry to discuss challenges and goals; and concludes with an evening of celebration, dinner and music.

“Local herbalists thrive on the herbs growing wild on conserved woodlands, farmlands and some urban settings,” says Jeannie Dunn, the new owner of Red Moon Herbs, a 20-year-old leader in the local herbal community. “I’m excited to co-host an event with Warren Wilson College as a way for the leaders and enthusiasts of our industry to not only to celebrate what we do, but to work together to protect the land that is home for many of the 4000 species of plants native to NC.”

This first annual event includes local herbal “superstars” CoreyPine Shane of Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine, Alan Muskat of No Taste Like Home, Corinna Wood of Southeast Wise Women, Ceara Foley of Asheville School of Holistic Herbalism, Mimi Hernandez of Asheville Herbalist Guild, Robin Suggs of Moonbranch Botanicals, Joe Hollis of Mountain Gardens and Jeannie Dunn of Red Moon Herbs.

In addition to the classes, events and festivities, Garden Tours will be given by Warren Wilson’s Herb Crew, Free Childcare activities are available from 3:30 – 7:30 and a Natural Products Bazaar will showcase local businesses and organizations such as BioNetwork BioBusiness Center, Mountain Well Being, NC Natural Products Association, Blue Ridge Naturally and many others. Evening fun includes a wild foods dinner catered by Marc Williams (botanyeveryday.com) and chef Michael Gentry,herbal elixirs mixed by Red Moon Herbs and live music presented byDestroying Angel.
