Gov. Perdue issues statement on Newtown shooting, orders flags lowered

Full announcement from the office of the governor:

RALEIGH – Gov. Bev Perdue has joined President Obama by ordering U.S. and North Carolina flags lowered on state facilities in tribute to victims of the tragic mass shooting in Connecticut. The flags will be lowered through sunset on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Citizens are urged to follow this order as well. She also issued the following statement:

“Our thoughts and hearts are with the families of the victims of this senseless act of violence in Newtown, Conn. Bob and I are deeply shocked and heartbroken over this tragic loss of life. Our prayers are with all the families of the children, teachers and administrators.
