Grace Lutheran ‘Charity Challenge’

Press release from Grace Lutheran Church:

100 years…100 gifts are the monthly goal for giving during the 100th Anniversary year of Grace Lutheran Church. Project chair Lynne Presley said, “We are so blessed to celebrate 100 years of Grace Lutheran Church. Each month of our centennial year, we will have a “Charity Challenge” for our church, our community, and our world.” The Church’s goal is to collect 100 items or more for each month’s charity. A specific “wish” list will be posted each month in the Grace Lutheran welcome center for the congregation and interested community members to follow and help.

The first project began in October with an effort to support Heart Songs at Four Seasons Hospice which is a teen and children’s bereavement support group. The children make craft projects to deal with their loss. Heart Songs is solely supported by grants and donations, so Grace Lutheran raised cash donations and prepared 170 craft items for this charity.

During November, the church’s focus is on adopting needy families for winter. Members are collecting 100 items for keeping youth and children warm in Henderson County. Hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, and ear bands are needed. The community is invited to assist the church in this effort by bringing items to the Church reception area any weekday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Sunday mornings. Items can be bought or handmade and children’s sizes are especially needed.

For December, Grace Lutheran is working with Apple Country Woodcrafters, a nonprofit formed 30 years ago with approximately 90 members who make wooden toys throughout the year. The handmade trucks, planes, cars, doll cradles, doll houses and furniture, ducks, and animals are distributed through Salvation Army, Prison Ministry, and Homeless Shelters, and given to needy children. Their goal is to brighten the holiday season for disadvantaged children in Henderson County. The church will help throughout December to provide Tite Bond 2 glue, scrap wood that is not treated (2×4’s, 2×6’s, plywood), cloth for doll bed quilts, and money for supplies and facility rent. The community is invited to help support this month-long effort.

Grace Lutheran Church is located at the corner of Sixth Avenue West and Blythe Street in Hendersonville. For further information call 828-693-4890.
