Grace Lutheran youth plan July work mission in Indianapolis

HENDERSONVILLE – Grace Lutheran Church will be sending 24 youth and seven adult guides on a mission work trip to a Youthworks site in Indianapolis, Indiana from July 12 to 19. Youthworks is an organization whose purpose is to connect teenagers to God, each other and communities through life-changing Christ-centered mission trips. Grace sends it youth on mission work trips every summer.

The students and guides will be housed in classrooms at St. John’s United Church of Christ on the south end of Indianapolis and will participate in varied service experiences together with local volunteers and organizations. Everyone will rise at 7 a.m. to prepare for breakfast and devotionals and depart for work sites at 9:00, working until 3:30 p.m. with a lunch break at noon. There is then time for clean-up and rest before dinner at 5:30 followed by a variety of evening educational programs and activities followed by lights out at 11:15 p.m.

The Grace Lutheran team will provide services at three Eastside Indianapolis community outreach centers which offer shelter, tutoring, mentoring and Christ-centered support to local neighborhoods; help a Westminster Mission Beautification effort; work at two local church thrift stores, at a soup kitchen; and three food banks. The goal of the mission trip is to provide the students with life-changing Christ-centered experiences that will broaden their perspectives, ignite passions, expose possibilities and inspire pursuits.
