Hendersonville Times-News’ parent company Halifax Media Group acquires more publications

According to the Hendersonville Times-News:
Halifax Media Group, parent company of the Times-News, today closed a deal with Freedom Communications to purchase eight daily and 11 weekly publications in North Carolina and Florida.

The acquisition further expands Halifax Media’s reach in these states, following the Jan. 6 purchase of the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group.

With the Freedom purchase, total circulation for the Halifax Media Group will grow to 635,000 daily and 752,000 Sunday.

The North Carolina papers acquired from Freedom are the Times-News in Burlington, The Daily News in Jacksonville, the Gaston Gazette in Gastonia, The Star in Shelby, The Free Press in Kinston, The Jones Post in Kinston, The Havelock News in Havelock, The Sun Journal and The Shopper in New Bern, and The Topsail Advertiser in Surf City. …
