Hands On! Receives Grants for Portion of New Roof

Hendersonville, N.C.– Hands On! – A Child’s Gallery, the children’s museum located on Main Street, has been working to cover the cost of capital expenses that include a new roof, work on a high wall on the roof and a new facade. As one of four members of a condo association of Rosdon Mall, Hands On! needs $35,000-$40,000 to cover their portion of the capital improvements.

Hands On! has now received two grants of $10,000 each to assist with the new roof from The Community Foundation of Henderson County and The Cannon Foundation. “Both of these foundations have been incredibly generous to help us with this emergency need, as the timing of our request has not been ideal. We moved forward quickly once all four condominium members committed, and we knew we had to invest in this project whether we received any funding or not. By receiving grant funds, we do not need to utilize our dedicated three month reserves towards the project or take out a loan, and any additional funds we raise will allow us to increase our reserves to our identified goal of a six month operations reserve,” said Heather Boeke, Executive Director of Hands On! and President of the Condo Association.

The Community Foundation of Henderson County, founded in 1983, supports charitable programs in the greater Henderson County area. The Cannon Foundation was established in 1943 and is focused predominantly on North Carolina for capital projects and equipment.

The mission of Hands On! is to provide children and families with “hands-on” educational experiences that stimulate the imagination and motivate learning in a fun, safe environment. Hands On! accomplishes this mission with their educational facility on Main Street, their Mad Scientist on Wheels program in schools, libraries and hospitals, and through programs and classes in the facility and in the community. If you would like to donate to their capital needs to help the museum further, please contact Heather Boeke at 697-8333 or mail payment to 318 North Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
