Wed. 1/1 CLOSED. NEW YEAR’S DAY! – HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thurs. 1/2 11 am. Healthy Kids Club – Fun with Fruits and Vegetables! All ages. This 30 minute presentation is entitled “Fun with Fruits & Vegetables” focuses on the importance of knowing your fruits and vegetables so you can make healthy food choices. Very soft & plush fruits & vegetables makes this class a fun tactile & visual experience for the little ones. Sponsored by the Henderson County Department of Public Health. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

Fri. 1/3 All day. Snowflake Jewelry. All ages. Create a snowflake necklace or hair barrette while practicing counting and measurement. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

Tues. 1/7-Fri.1/10 All day. World Braille Days @ Hands On! – World Braille Day is celebrated each year on Jan. 4th. Learn to write your name in Braille, experience Braille books and see how 6 dots changed the world. Play Braille Twister Tuesday at 10:30 am and Wednesday at 3:30 pm. All ages. Sponsored by Drs. Alison & Richard Reid, Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. Free with $5 admission/free for members.

Tues.1/7 11:00 am – 11:30 am. Mad Scientists Lab – Gem & Jewel Goop! Ages 3 yrs & up. Join Dr. Bunson & Dr. Beaker in the Mad Scientist Lab as they make crazy concoctions. Mad Scientists Lab will be every Tuesday morning at 11 am January 7, 14, 21 & 28. $7 non-members (includes admission for child participating in class); free for members. Mon. 1/20 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Hands On! is open! I have a dream…activity in Art Area. All day. All ages. Hands On! is OPEN this Monday from 10 am – 5 pm. Free with $5 admission/Free for members.

Mon. 1/20 Vet Exhibit Re-fresh! Come meet the new animals in the Vet Exhibit sponsored by Etowah Valley Veterinary Hospital. Bring your stuffed animal in for a check-up! Also, mark your calendars for National Pet Week May 6-9, 2014. We will have special events celebrating pets! Free with $5 admission/free for members.

Tues. 1/21-Thu.1/24 National Kazoo Days! All day. All ages. Did you know that the kazoo is a uniquely American instrument? It was invented in Georgia in 1852 by African American, Alabama Vest, & a German clockmaker, Thaddeus Von Clegg. Come to Hands On! and celebrate this humdinger of an instrument. Learn its history, fun facts and hear a few songs. Join in spontaneous kazoo parades in the museum. Kazoos available for purchase to share with the world! Free with $5 admission/Free for members.

Fri. 1/24 National Bellylaugh Day. All day. All ages. Laughter is good medicine! Enjoy the health benefits of laughing. Take the Hands On! belly laugh challenge and win a prize. Ha, Ha, Ha! Free with $5 admission/Free for members.

Fri. 1/31-Sat. 2/1 All day. Happy Groundhog Day on Sunday, Feb. 2nd! All ages. Try our step-by-step guide to drawing a groundhog! Free with $5 admission/Free for members.

The mission of Hands On! is to provide children and families with “hands on” educational experiences that stimulate the imagination and motivate learning in a fun, safe environment. Special classes are offered in the facility all year long, and teachers can call Hands On! to learn about traveling programs available in schools. Hands On! is located at 318 N. Main Street.
