Hayden Rogers touts Blue Dog endorsement

Announcement from Hayden Rogers for Congress:

Brasstown, NC –Hayden Rogers today received the endorsement of the fiscally responsible Blue Dog Coalition. The group of moderate and conservative Democrats focuses on reducing wasteful spending, balancing the federal budget, and ensuring a strong national defense.

“The national debt is a serious threat to our nation’s economic security and a hindrance to job creation,” Rogers said. “We cannot continue to run massive deficits, slow economic growth, and burden future generations of Americans with mountains of debt that will limit their ability to succeed. It is our responsibility to make the hard decisions now. We must reduce spending and while still making smart investments in our future. I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Blue Dog Coalition and look forward to continuing to work with them to restore fiscal sanity to the federal government.”

Rep. Heath Shuler is the Administration Co-Chair of the Blue Dog Coalition and said Rogers will be a valuable voice for the Coalition and fiscal responsibility in Congress.

“Hayden has owned and operated a small business. He knows the ups and downs that go with running your own business and how to create jobs. He, along with other Blue Dog members, will help put our country back on a path to fiscal soundness and economic prosperity. As a member of Congress, Hayden will always put the interests of American taxpayers and future generations first.”

The Blue Dogs also have policy task forces that focus on issues like small business development, energy independence, and regulatory reform. They also seek to represent the commonsense center of American politics and to move our country beyond divisive and destructive partisan rhetoric.

“Western North Carolinians expect and deserve a Representative who will fight for them and help solve the challenges we face as a nation. Partisan bickering doesn’t solve problems, hard work and a willingness to listen to all sides does. As a Member of Congress, my focus will always be on solving problems and helping the people of Western North Carolina,” Rogers concluded.

The Blue Dog Coalition is comprised of 24 members from across the country who represent the sensible center of American politics. They have worked to bring fiscal discipline to the nation’s budget process since their founding in 1995.

Unfortunately, the Blue Dogs only look fiscally responsible if you ignore the practical effect of the policies they advocate. Right now we need to put people back to work in order to stimulate the economy. WNC has an unemployment rate above 11 percent, with some counties close to 20 percent.

Blue Dog policies will continue to suppress economic growth and continue to delay recovery in our region. Their fanciful notion that cutting spending and preserving tax cuts for the wealthy will somehow create jobs is G.W. Bush era economic thinking.

I’m running for Congress because we need a representative for WNC who votes with the President instead of voting with and advocating for the failed Republican policies that got us into this mess.
