Press release from The Art League of Henderson County:

The Art League of Henderson County is pleased to announce the winners of its April members’ choice contest. The April 2016 Artist of the Month is Jeff Mangum with his painting  Freedom Eagle, and Honorable Mention went to Star Butler for her Early on the Beach entry.  Both of these winners are part of the monthly Members Showcase, in the Sylvia Campbell Gallery, the hallways of Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC.

The Members Challenge subject for the month of April was “spring.”  The viewers’ choice award in the Challenge Show went to John Anderson for his watercolor painting Daffodils.  That piece, along with the other entries in the show, can be found in the Grace Etheredge Gallery at the Opportunity House, which is the main conference room.

Each month, Art League members are invited to bring their work, ready for hanging, to Opportunity House the Friday prior to that month’s meeting. A diligent crew hangs the work, and, at the meeting, members vote on their favorites to come up with the Artist of the Month and the Honorable Mention. At the end of the year, the Artist of the Year is selected from among the 12 monthly winners.

The Art League of Henderson County is open to all who are interested in fine art. The organization meets monthly on the second Sunday of each month (3rd Sunday in May), at Opportunity House, 1411 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC (ample on-site parking is available and the facility is handicapped accessible). The social time begins at 1:30 pm, with a short business meeting beginning at 2 pm.  An art related presentation then follows until 4 pm. Guests are always welcome.
