Hendersonville Sister Cities holds cemetery walk on “Día de los Muertos”

Press release:

Join Hendersonville Sister Cities on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in observing one of the “days of the dead” in Mexican tradition, with a walk through one of Hendersonville’s local cemeteries.

Coinciding with the Catholic holidays All Soul’s & All Saint’s Day, the “days of the dead” are celebrated in Mexican tradition beginning on Oct. 31, when the gates of heaven are believed to open in order to allow the spirits of deceased children to visit their families for one day on Nov. 1 (Día de los Inocentes or “Day of the Innocents”), who are followed by the spirits of deceased adults on Nov. 2 (Día de los Muertos or “Day of the Dead”).

Hendersonville residents can respectfully honor the local deceased, and learn about the history of and mysteries associated with the Oakdale Cemetery during a guided walk led by LuAnn Welter on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include appetizers at Sol y Luna on Main Street following the walk. A cash bar will also be available at the restaurant.

Tickets are available for purchase at the bill payment office at Hendersonville’s City Hall, located at 145 5th Ave. E. On the day of the cemetery walk, please meet at the gazebo at Oakdale Cemetery, located at Highway 64 West and Valley Street.
