Holiday brass concert at First United Methodist Church in Waynesville

North Carolina-based musicians, educators, and recording artists, Carolina Brass, will perform in the sanctuary of the Waynesville First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30pm. The program, which will feature a variety of holiday and classical songs, is free to the public.

Trained at some of the country’s most prestigious schools, including the New England Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, and the Eastman School of Music, the members of Carolina Brass are known internationally for high caliber musicality delivered with a sense of fun.

“Quite simply, this is the best brass group in the southeast,” said Scott Taylor, Director of Worship, Music and Arts at First Methodist Church. “And honestly, Christmas is the best time to hear a brass ensemble play.”

Carolina Brass makes it their mission to promote the understanding of music and to improve the performance level of musicians of all ages in a fun and exciting way—an element of the concert to which the former music student in Taylor responds.

“Music appreciation happens better with live music. And hearing high quality music is the best engine for developing music appreciation in children,” said Taylor. He has made a special effort to invite local musicians of all ages to the events by reaching out to local high school band programs as well as the families of the seventy elementary-age children that take free music and choral classes at First Methodist Church every Wednesday afternoon. “I hope during intermission or after the show, parents take their kids up front to look at the instruments and talk to the musicians,” said Taylor. “The kids will understand they are actually seeing the creation of music.”

The concert is free to the public.
