Hunter Subaru North Carolina Grand Prix brings international bicycle racing to Hendersonville, Dec. 12-13

Hendersonville, NC: The North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series announces the Hunter Subaru North Carolina Grand Prix (NCGP) on December 12-13, 2015. The race will attract professional racers from around the world in pursuit of UCI ranking points and USA Cycling Pro CX series points to secure their place at the USAC Cyclo-Cross National Championships to be held in Asheville, NC in January 2016. Hundreds of amateur cyclists will round out the Grand Prix, competing for prizes and award money. The Grand Prix is the marquee event of the North Carolina Cyclo-Cross series which runs October through January.

Henderson County Parks & Recreation Department will partner with North Carolina Cyclo-Cross to host the event in Jackson Park, with the course taking advantage of the varied terrain features of the site. Racing will start at 8:30am both days, with the featured Elite Women racing at 1:20pm and the Elite Men racing at 2:30pm. There will be a free kid’s (8 years and under) race with prizes for all each day at 12:00pm. The event also features the Vendor Zone with Hubba Bubba BBQ, Flat Rock Village Bakery, Sycamore Cycles, Giordana Cycling, the National Whitewater Center, and more. The Hunter Auto Group will have vehicles on display from Subaru. The event is free to spectators! Jackson Park will remain open for public use, but there will be no thru traffic during the event.

Cyclo-cross is a fast-paced, spectator-friendly cycling discipline that combines road and mountain bike aspects, requiring riders to switch terrains and at times dismount and run or carry their bikes. The North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series was founded in 1997 and consists of 14 races across North Carolina, including the Winter Cup held in January. The Grand Prix will be the final race of the regular series, preparing racers for national and world championships. The Grand Prix is a UCI category 2 race, making it a valuable points stop for Elite racers in pursuit of ranking points. Hunter Subaru is the presenting sponsor of the Grand Prix with Giordana Cycling and KASK Helmets as series sponsors.
