Jason Walls to present on Duke Energy’s plans for land near Issac Dickson Elementary, March 17

Jason Walls, Duke Energy’s district manager for the Asheville area, is visiting the Montford Recreation Center (34 Pearson Drive) on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m., to give a presentation regarding Duke’s purchase of and plans for their recently acquired land in downtown Asheville, including a plot in close proximity to Issac Dickson Elementary. Walls will also be available to respond to citizens’ questions and concerns following his speech.

The power company purchased some 24.2 acres of Asheville land for $13.6 million from August to December 2014, according to a story by the Citizen Times’ Mike Cronin, who reported on the Duke’s need to build several downtown substations to meet the city’s growing energy needs.

Patterson says the Montford Neighborhood Association requested Walls’ presence due to concerns about Duke’s intended use for the parcel by Issac Dickson Elementary.
