PRESS RELEASE:

When The Magnetic Theatre debuted Jim Julien’s The Caro Savanti Experience in a sold-out run at the BeBe in July 2013, Tony Kiss of the Asheville Citizen-Times called it “wild fun. The Magnetic Theatre really has something cooking with its latest original comic romp. Darren Marshall gives an amazing performance as a crazed celebrity chef, pushed to the edge as he opens a new Asheville restaurant and tapes a pilot for a proposed reality TV show.” He went on to call it “pure comic insanity” and “one of the funniest shows yet from the Magnetic!”

The Caro Savanti Experience is the first full-length work by Jim Julien, one of the forces behind the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival and a longtime associate of The Magnetic Theatre. First performed in five-minute snippets in our Magnetic Midnight series, it was expanded into a one-act version, which debuted in Brief Encounters: New Magnetic Voices 2012, and then it was further developed in our playwrighting unit.

“We always thought Caro had gotten short shrift,” says Magnetic Artistic Director Steven Samuels, “so we’re thrilled finally to have an opportunity to bring it back in a home of our own. More people should have a chance to see a show that’s only grown more relevant and funny as Asheville’s restaurant/foodie scene continues to expand.”

This edition, directed by Elliot Weiner, stars Darren Marshall, reprising the title role, and a new supporting cast: Kristen Aldrich, Julianne Arnall, Mandy Bean, Travis Kelley, Jenni Robinson, Jason Williams, and Mike Yow.

Caro only plays three weekends (Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 PM, February 11-27), so get your seat at the table while you can!
