Lake Lure Olympiad starts today

From the Lake Lure Olympiad:

LAKE LURE, N.C. (August 8, 2013): Considered by athletes as one of the most scenic race weekends on any calendar, the views at the ninth annual Lake Lure Olympiad will take your breath away if the climbs don’t first. Anchored by a “3 Races in 3 Days Challenge,” with the USMS Dixie Zone 2 Mile Open Water Championship mixed in, the sports festival dares athletes of all levels with its 10K Dam Run on Friday, Lake Lure Triathlon on Saturday, and Race to the Rock on Sunday. Die-hard athletes can do all three for a special reward. Go crazy, and add the Open Water Swim race for ultimate bragging rights.

But, the Lake Lure Olympiad isn’t just for grownups. Bring your kids along and let them vie for medals in the Jr. Olympiad. Presented by Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure, Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, and Rutherford Regional Health System, participants can enjoy family-friendly activities all weekend long. Get your competition and vacation fix all in one trip. Since 2005, the Olympiad has donated $220,000 to area nonprofit organizations.
