Local artist Anita Funston wins award at sculpture exhibition

Local artist Anita Funston, wins a judge’s Merit award during the 29th Annual Sculpture Celebration at the beautiful Broyhill Walking Park in Lenoir, NC. Her winning sculpture, Kachina, is one of a kind. It is cast aluminum that was made via the evaporative-pattern casting method.

Anita Funston lives in Henderson County and has been recently creating art at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC. Regarding the Lenoir, NC Exhibition/Competition, she stated “I found the Sculpture Celebration to be an excellent venue for me to display the diversity of my sculptures in a beautiful outdoor setting, and I am looking forward to next year when they will be hosting their 30th Annual Sculpture Celebration.”

This art event is conducted as a partnership between the Caldwell Arts Council, Tri-State Sculptors Association, Mountain Sculptors, the City of Lenoir and the Lenoir Tourism Development Association. It is held annually on the first weekend after Labor Day and is free for the public.

Anita Funston creates one of a kind sculptures. She is inspired by nature. Her works incorporate harmony and humor.
