Emmy-nominated singer Kat Williams joined the Henderson County Boys and Girls Club as a member of the board of directors on Tuesday, Jan. 14, according to an article by BlueRidgeNow.com.  The jazz and blues artists caught the attention of assistant executive director Julia Hockenberry after speaking about her experience with homelessness and violence last year, and she has visited the club several times since to offer support to children in need.

“I get where they are coming from, because most of the kids here, I come from the same place,” William told BlueRidgeNow. “I have had the same struggles, so what some of them are going to go through, they have a reference point now, someone who has been there and done that.”
