Written by Eve Ensler seventeen years ago and based on hundreds of interviews with women, the Vagina Monologues returns to the Orange Peel on Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. The production — directed, produced and all-around spearheaded by WNC Weddings and Events owner Allison Taylor — spans hilarious and heart-wrenching moments with the overarching goal of furthering women’s issues advocacy.

“The purpose of the Monologues is to raise funds and awareness for anti-violence groups in our local communities in an effort to end domestic and sexual violence against women,” reads the event description. “100 percent of the proceeds from this production will go directly to Helpmate of Asheville, and all of our cast are volunteers.”

Helpmate, an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, has pursued a mission of “working with our community to eliminate abuse and fear” for three decades.

The seated show is recommended for individuals aged 17 years and up due to mature content. Attendees aged 16 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

“I especially want to encourage men to attend as these are issues that affect their mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, and friends,” says Taylor. “The response that I’ve received from the fellows has been awesome!”

Taylor’s production of the Vagina Monologues, with support from Skillful Solutions of Pisgah Forest, will be held in conjunction with the V-day movement, a “global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls.” Tickets and information are available at theorangepeel.net, with general admission costing $25 per person in advance and $35 at the door. Student prices are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
