Local American Advertising Federation chapter gives out advertising awards

From the press release:

(Asheville, NC) March 21, 2012 — AAF Asheville, the Western North Carolina affiliate of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), recently announced winners of the 2012 ADDY® Awards for creative excellence in advertising. Over 60 entries from WNC advertisers and agencies competed in categories ranging from annual reports to interactive media to advertising for the arts and sciences.

Synergy Point Interactive received the ADDY® Best of Show Award for its “Get Lost in Loudon” website (www.getlostinloudon.com). Three entrants were singled out for special Judges Awards: Flat Rock Playhouse received a Judges Award for Brand Identity for its mixed media campaign “iCon: Understand What You’re Saying”; Fields & Company, a Judges Award for Art Direction, for its awareness campaign for Crossnore School; and Connie Arridas Creative, a Judges Award for Copywriting, for Handmade in America’s “Small Towns” brochure.

A tied People’s Choice award went to UNC-Asheville Mass Communication students for the department newsletter, “mass comm(unity),” and to Flat Rock Playhouse for “iCon: Understand What You’re Saying.”

A total of six Gold ADDY® and 14 Silver ADDY® Awards were presented. Entries were judged on creativity, originality, creative strategy and execution. A complete list of winners is attached.

Synergy Point Interactive’s “Get Lost in Loudon” website went on to win the District 3 stage of this three-tiered competition, which recognizes the best of the best from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. This is the first entry from AAF Asheville to win a District ADDY. District winners are then eligible to compete in the prestigious national ADDY® awards, presented by AAF at its national conference in June.

Judges for the 2012 AAF-Asheville ADDY® Awards included Jeff Tobin, a copywriter from Columbus, Ohio, Cher Cornett, a graphic/interactive designer at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, and Mike Gustafson, a creative director with Fifty Eight Advertising in Atlanta.
