Local photographer Reggie Sheldon Tidwell heads to Rwanda

Local photographer Reggie Sheldon Tidwell writes, “I’m on the Board for LEAF and am heading to Rwanda to support LEAF and another non-profit organization (Africa Healing Exchange) that has a pilot program there. I’ll be taking gifts from LEAF to the orphans and photographing them while I’m there.”

In 2009, Tidwell, photographed Mizero, a group of Rwandan orphans who tour and perform, when they visited White Horse/Black Mountain. Read about the event here: http://www.mountainx.com/article/21132/Wonderful-photos-from-the-Rwandan-childrens-performance-in-Black-Mountain-last-weekend
and see Tidwell’s photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/curvetheory/sets/72157612705139405 .

Tidwell’s trip begins on Monday, Aug. 19. He’ll post journal entries and photos daily on his web site: http://www.curvetheory.com/AfricanJourney .
He is also collecting contributions toward his travel, which is largely self-funded. “Thanks to a generous donor, the flight to Johannesburg was covered,” Tidwell posted earlier, but since, “there was a fire at the Nairobi Airport that has effect our travel from Johannesburg to Kigali. Tickets have escalated in price, so contributions are needed and greatly appreciated.”
